Meet Donald Gossett, D.D.S. and family.
Dr. Gossett has ties to the St. Joseph and surrounding areas. His grandfather was born and raised in Filmore, Missouri and his grandmother was raised in Mound City, Missouri. He routinely visited St. Joseph as a youth and later married his wife, Sheryl, who was born and raised in Albany, Missouri. Returning to the St. Joseph area was a natural transition for Dr. Gossett and his family. He raised both of his children in St. Joseph and they attended Central High School. His daughter, Lauren Windhorst, has recently finished her graduate training in Orthodontics and is practicing in St Joseph, Missouri and owns Choice Orthodontics. His son, Dustin Gossett, is living in Prairie Village, Kansas. He is a regional director for Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Heand his wife have blessed Dr. Gossett with two beautiful grandchildren. Dr. Gossett and his family attend Wyatt Park Baptist Church where he serves as a Deacon.
Dr. Gossett received his dental degree at the UMKC School of Dentistry in 1981. He then immediately entered a specialty training program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Carle Clinic in Champaign/Urbana, Illinois where he served a year as chief resident. At the finish of training, Dr. Gossett entered private practice in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Dr. Gossett became a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1986 and was involved in residency training as an attending at the Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
He has been involved in a leadership role in the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the Missouri Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons since 1988. Currently, he is a Delegate to the AAOMS House of Delegates, representing the State of Missouri and is the AAOMS Distrct V caucus chairman. Dr. Gossett is the past chairman of the OMFS Political Action Committee and is still intimately involved in the political processes involving healthcare. Presently, he is serving on the AAOMS Committee for Healthcare and Advocacy which keeps him current on all of the significant healthcare issues affecting Oral and Maillofacial surgery. He has served as the legislative chair for the Missouri Society of OMFS for the past twenty years and has joined the MDA committee for legislative issues.
Dr.Gossett has advocated for patients for over thirty years through his involvement in the state and national legislatures. He is continuing to fight for patient’s rights and benefits though his efforts in the legislative process.
